Patna (PTI) Bihar: Feb 5, 2012: Observing that a welter of problems ranging from external threats, terrorism, Maoism and FDI posed a serious challenge to national sovereignty, the RSS today urged the government to put in place a security infrastructure and intelligence system.

Mohan Bhagwat, RSS Sarasanghachalak

“Desh mein suraksha ka sankatpaida ho gaya hai….sanskar se lekardesh ki seema tak videshi gushpaithho raha hai (there is a threat to the national security due to foreign invasion on our culture), RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat reporters.

“There is a serious threat to the national border from China and Pakistan, even as terrorism, Maoism and economic issues like the FDI in retail sector pose other challenges so much so to endanger our national sovereignty,” Bhagwat said.

The government should put in place security infrastructure and intelligence system to sternly deal with external threats to the national borders from China and Pakistan and internal threats from terrorists and Maoists, Bhagwat said.

Observing that there was lack of development and employment opportunities in the country which apparently compelled the youths to take to other activities for sustenance, he said that there should be transparency and accountability in the political system to address growing economic chasm in the society.

“I am afraid that the functioning of the governments have lacked transparency and accountability over the years that has caused socio-economic inequity in society much to the detriment of the nation building exercise,” Bhagwat said.

The government should adopt even-handed approach to address all issues ranging from security, terrorism, Maoism and socio-economic imbalance in society instead of prevailing sectarian and vote bank politics, the RSS leader said and expressed apprehension that if institutions failed to deliver the goods to the people, then the people may rise and launch a revolution to put in place an alternative political system.

Bhagwat also rapped the UPA government without taking its name for going ahead with notifying FDI in retail sector despite strong opposition to it from the cross-section of the society.

There has been adequate foreign investment flowing into the country’s economy but the flow of funds should not affect the domestic control over economy, Bhagwat observed and said that the issue should have been debated, including its long-term consequence, before taking a decision in this regard.

On the RSS’s stand, he said that the Sangh was not opposed to foreign investment in the country but “the keys of economy have to remain in domestic hands.

Bangalore: Hindu Seva Pratishthana’s Nele project has transformed the life of children wandering on Bangalore streets and has enabled them lead a respectful life. Nele means shelter in Kannada. Their life has been brought on correct track of schooling and good conduct so as to become the responsible citizens of tomorrow.
It is a common sight in Bangalore to see children with torn clothes, disheveled hair, eyes full of hope, lugging a dirty bag on their tiny shoulder, picking bits and pieces of rags from the streets. They are totally deprived of the right to parent’s love and affection, basic education and support from society. The only choice for these kids to have their living is to feed themselves on the leftover food thrown around by the people. Apart from the rag-pickers there are also thousands of other children deprived of parental care and facing financial hardships who need homely atmosphere. It is no wonder that many of these children, devoid of basic schooling and cultural education, cultivate all the wrong habits and end up as anti social elements marching on the path of crime.
The city of Bangalore alone encompasses thousands of such children.

It is the responsibility of any civilized society to take care of its people, especially children like these. Hindu Seva Prathisthana offers a ray of hope to these children in the form of Nele. Nele project was initiated by Hindu Seva Pratishthana in the year 2000 to provide residential care to such children. So far, 10 centres have been established in Karnataka that provide shelter to over 260 boys and girls. Facilities such as food, clothing and shelter; school based education, cultural education & social awareness; sports, music, fine arts, Sanskrit and Yoga along with the health and hygiene awareness are provided to destitute children.

Well known music director Mano Murthy visited Nele

Many of the children are brought here by the police or social workers to prevent them from falling victim to crime and social evils. The idea behind Nele is to provide a home-like atmosphere with loving care so that their emotional needs are also met along with the financial and material ones. So, the wardens and volunteers treat the children like members of their own family, mingle with them freely, and even dine with them regularly.
Of course, there are a handful of children who show little or no inclination for studies and show consistently poor academic results. Such children are first encouraged to study hard but if the situation does not improve, they are given vocational training. Once they are adults and equipped with minimum education or vocation skills, all Nele inmates are helped to find jobs. There are a few dropouts too, who want to return home instead of staying in Nele for their own reasons or due to family pressure with their elders insisting on taking them away.
Most parents regard Nele as a boon, because their children are receiving what they themselves could never provide––three meals a day, safe shelter, hygienic bathing facilities, clean clothes, decent education and opportunities for extracurricular activities. There are mothers who express relief that their children have escaped the horror of seeing their drunken fathers and scenes of domestic abuse everyday and being emotionally scarred by that.
Some children have seen their mothers walk out from the home abandoning them to the father and/or grandparents who then bring the children here. Also, street children are vulnerable to many other dangers––they get drawn to or are forced into drug abuse/being used as drug peddlers, thievery, beggary, gang fights, smoking, drinking, prostitution, etc. Many of them turn into juvenile delinquents. Nele aims to rescue children from that fate and put them on the path to becoming productive, disciplined, self-reliant and socially useful individuals. They are also encouraged to return to their parents.
Various festivals such as Raksha Bandhan, Makar Sankranti, Shrikrishna Janmashtami, etc are celebrated with religious fervor. A unique programme called Makkala Mantapa provides a platform to Nele children to compete in various sports and cultural events. Children from Nele have won prizes in music, drawing, athletics, kabaddi and kho kho at district level competitions. Nele children were invited to present a programme at prestigious Dussehra festival at Mysore and their performance was much appreciated by all.

Participating on the 4th day of Maha-Mastakaabhisheka* of Sri Bahubali at Venoor Jain Shrine, RSS Chief said “Implementation of religious theories in practical life is not easy.
About Bahubali:

Bahubali also called Gomateshwara is a Jain deity.According to Jain myth he was the second of the hundred sons of the first Tirthankara, Rishabha, and king of Podanpur. The Adipurana, a 10th century Kannada text by Jain poet Adikavi Pampa ( 941 CE), written in Champu style, a mix of prose and verse and spread over in sixteen cantos, deals with the ten lives of the first tirthankara, Rishabha and his two sons, Bharata and Bahubali.

The contest: Bahubali’s elder brother, Bharata, was envious of his wealth, grandeur, strength and success. His desire was for all of Bahubali’s kingdom and wealth, and thus, Bharat decided to attack the lands Bahubali ruled. Fearing that the war would destroy both the kingdoms, as well as thousands of innocent soldiers, the ministers of both sides began negotiations. After much thinking, it was decided that a personal contest between the two brothers would be a better option than war. The brothers were required to enter three traditional forms of martial contest: drishti yuddha, jala yuddha, and malla yuddha.

The last battle was to be fought by hitting heads with fists. Bharat had the first shot, because he was older than Bahubali, which knocked Bahubali nearly to the ground. Then, it was Bahubali’s turn. Bahubali’s name means ‘Bahu’ – Arm, and ‘Bali’ – Strength, he was known for the immense strength of his arm. Everybody knew and worried, that if Bahubali’s blows struck Bharat, Bharat would probably die. This contest could have been easily won by Bahubali striking Bharat. But as Bahubali raised his arm to land a blow, he paused, realizing that fighting his elder brother for land, wealth, and power was neither sane nor righteous. Indeed, it would have been a grievous moral failure for a son of a Tirthankara.

As a rule for a Kshatriya, once he has taken action, it is not possible for him to withdraw or retreat. So, instead of landing a blow on his older brother with his raised arm, he simply changed direction, pulling out his own hair with the same hand, thus avoiding striking Bharat. With this, he put aside all of his possessions, and became a solitary renunciant. Learning from this example, Bharat came to understand the folly of his greed for land, money, and power forgiving his younger brother. Bharat continued to ruled for some time, until eventually joining Lord Rishabdev as a solitary renunciant.

Meditation

The fight with his brother troubled Bahubali, so after much contemplation, he decided to give up his kingdom and take up the ascetic life. He took to meditation with a thirst for truth, but – it was for ego that he took to meditation on his own. Among monks who accept monastic vows, one must bow to all others who have accepted previously regardless of age. Bahubali knew that if he went to Lord Rishabdev(Aadinath) for permission to take monastic vows, he would have to bow down to all his 98 younger brothers, who had renounced before him. Bahubali began meditating with great resolve to attain supreme knowledge, but did not succeed because his ego, which stopped him from visiting his father’s court, did not allow him to attain this Keval Jnana.

However, Bahubali was adamant. He continued his practice unmindful of the vines, ants, and dust which enveloped his body. Concerned, his sisters Brhami and Sundari asked Tirthankar Adinath about their worldly brother Bahubali. Tirthankar Adinath said that, although just moments away from enlightenment, Bahubali could not achieve it because he didn’t realise that he was standing on ‘the elephant’ – Ego. Now understanding his folly, the sisters approached him and said ‘O more bhai, ave to gaj ti utro’ (O my dear brother, at least now get down from the elephant). This saying from the sisters led Bahubali to question “Am I really standing on any kind of elephant?”. From this question he soon realised that the elephant he was standing upon was his pride and ego. As Bahubali realised his mistake, shedding his pride and ego, truth and enlightenment dawned upon him.Blessed with the knowledge of Truth, Bahubali went to see his father who welcomed him. Bahubali began teaching and showing people the right path.

Bahubali is a major figure in Jain hagiography. His story exemplifies the inner strength of Indian culture. He won everything from his brother and could have become an emperor, but he returned everything to the brother. Bahubali is considered the ideal of the man who conquers selfishness, jealousy, pride and anger.

Bangalore: Think India, a two-day conference was organized by Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad on 28, and 29 January, 2012 in IISc, Bangalore. Conducted at Satish Dhawan Auditorium, the 2 day event was inaugurated by Sateesh Reddy, Director of Inertial Systems, DRDO, the event saw a number of eminent speakers provide valuable inputs into wide ranging topics of current interest.

Think India- academic conference

The event with its thought provoking agenda paved the way for a saga for students, social entrepreneurs and every one who believe in the theme of the event: A vision for a vibrant nation. Students and alumnus from Institutes of national importance like the IIT’s, IIM’s and NIT’s thronged the event.

Inaugurating the event ABVP National President, Milind Marathe said, “Today, people proudly say that we are an NGO. But my question is that why take this stance wherein a government organization would be deemed inefficient. Why not just call it a ‘voluntary organization’? You’re doing it voluntarily so why not call it what it is? Why not work within the government and see your efforts bear fruit?”

Think India- academic conference

Speaking on the occasion, National President of ABVP, Prof Milind S Marathe, spoke on wide ranging subject, including disapproval of the bill that permitted universities from abroad to set up respective institutes in India. Prof Marathe said that Foreign Educational Institution (Regulation of Entry and Operation) Bill of 2010 was a back-door entry for commercializing education. He stated that the government was unwantedly giving red-carpet welcome to foreign varsities. On entering, these varsities require no accreditation. He strongly stated that the ABVP stood completely opposed to this. Marathe said that the bill would prove to be a waste, if the universities that planned their institutes did not stand among the top 100 in the world. He also stated that rules regarding quota that were applicable to Indian Universities should be made applicable for the foreign varsities as well.

The post lunch session of the inaugural day was graced by eminent thinker, Ram Madhav who captivated the audience his solid views on China. According to Ram Madhav, China has adopted a two pronged theory, where India is being engaged on a certain aspect, while on the other hand, it geographically encircles India completely for gaining strategic advantage. “India has had enough of peace rallies and soft approaches. It is high time we take a strong stand and the youth of India has to play the biggest role to help India achieve what it envisions”, he said.

Other sessions handled by IIM Professor, Awasthi, Sri Bal Apte, eminent MP and Anand Kumar, founder of Super 30 were highlights of the event. Shri Shraddhalu Ranade, scientist, Dr. Y.B.Ramakrishnan renowned educationist were the speakers who educated the audience on 29 January, 2012.

The event also saw 6 running competitions, including an essay competition, a photography competition, paper presentations with the theme- Idea Impact, spectacular street plays and poster competitions highlighting several issues.

3 day Hindu Shakti Sangama comcludes in a spectacular valedictory, From 1894 villages of 13 districts of North Karnataka 21,554 swayamsevaks participated in this 3 day residential camp of exercise.

Hubli Janurary 29: “We belong to a Hindu nation, known as Hindu Rashtra. Hindutva is the only ideology which unites this nation, which has all solutions for national challenges” said RSS Sarasanghachalak Mohan Bhagwat

He was addressing a mammoth gathering of swayamsevaks at the valedictory of 3 day convention Hindu Shakti Sangama-2012 at Hubli.

Mohan ji Bhagwat speaks in Valedictory Ceremony of Hindu Shakti Sangama-2012 (9)

“We have a great diversity in terms of food, culture, language and lifestyle. But by a basic inherited ideology of Hindutva we are related and united as a Hindu nation. It is a permanent theory and is never reactive. By Hindutva ideology our ancestors reached different part of the world from Mexico to Indonesia. Wherever they went, they contributed for the enhancement of their lives by teaching Yoga etc to those and seeded the eternal values of life”

“As said by Dr Kalam we forgot the worship of power (Shakti ki upaasana), due to which we were under slavery for thousand years. We need to regain the power make our society stable. RSS has doing this job of making these countrymen stronger to regain the power, to make a strong and prosperous Bharath”

“The power should be used for a better social cause. This power should be coupled with character (sheela). Then only this power will serve the society. Though Bharath was a victim for foreign invasion several times, they could not destroy this nation. We have a potentiality to resist all such attacks and to survive ourselves. The power should be utilised for join the society and should not divide”

“Men with character and social commitment are the need of the hour. In India we need such an awakened society to face challenges. This is the requirement for the world, as violence is growing globally; India has the potentiality to solve it. RSS is involved in making these countrymen to think and work for the nation” said Bhagwat

Valedictory of Hindu Shakti Sangama-2012

“This country is not just a piece of land for us. It is been worshipped as motherland since time immemorial. Our ancestors called it Mrunmayi. The society should remember 3 things, first the concept of Mathrubhoomi, Second proud of our Culture and third respect towards our ancestors. The one who always respects his ancestors and their contributions, values is a Hindu. He will feel that the river, mountains, environment and society is related to me directly or indirectly” opinioned the RSS Chief

“Hindutva always focuses on unity and integrity. Though India achieved Independence by administration, we should be self-dependent in our life. The Government and the Law (Shaasan and Prashasan) should help a common man in this direction. But due to short-sightedness and for mere political gains, people in govt are trying to divide the country by bringing new laws/bills or adhering to such policies of division. The administration should think of uniting people and not to divide. Hindutva ideology is the one which joins all countrymen” said Sarasanghachalak.

Mohan Bhagwat seriously accused central govt, said “Government’s inept handling of the Military General’s age issue and the issue of scientists being black-listed. Government is demolishing and demoralising the esteemed personalities and established institutions of the nation such as Saints, the army and the scientific community”

RSS has indulged in making a united society by educating a common man about his individual role. Reminding the vedic sentences (Sanghachadwam Samvadadhwam, let’s walk together, let’s have a common voice), we always focus upon national integration in our daily activities.

“RSS never demands publicity for its activities. Our work is towards a silent social transformation. We educate swayamsevaks to involve in works which strengthens our national unity. Swayamsevaks established more than 1.5lakh of social service activities or seva projects across the country. During natural calamities Sangh swayamsevaks reached the spot even before police or army men and involved in rescue operations”

Mohan ji said “RSS swayamsevaks always joined hands with all positive activities which make society stronger; Swayamsevaks never took part in any anti-social activities. If at all a swayamsevak is doing a mistake in social life, he should refill himself with Sangh values. Such cases are rare as Swayamsevaks has only aim of Rashtronnathi- the Prosperity of the Country”

“In India, the political leaders are not the masters, but the society is the master. The concept of Janata Janaardhan is well known. We suffered from imbroglio in Kashmir, Tibet etc due to lack of national vision. Though we didn’t attacked any country so far, we should be stronger enough to resist any foreign attack. We should have such a stabilised society so that we can have a stable administration”

“RSS has supported all forms for anti-corruption movements and will never tolerate corruption of any form. How can a society be corrupt, If strong character persists in individuals? “asked Bhagwat

In his presidential speech veteran scientist L.G. Dr V J Sundaram said “India got political freedom in 1947, but it was not economical. We had problem in several sectors, later we successfully achieved green revolution, white revolution and technological revolution. India has proved its potentiality in technology; our missile technology is one of the best on the world. In construction of Pruthvi Missile, I realised the strength of India being its project director”.

“India has made many missiles, army weapons indigenously. We proved our strength capacity in each sector in LAC. Dr Kalam was one of key man in this regard. ” said Dr V J Sundaram.

“I admire the discipline of RSS Swayamsevaks. The need of the hour is a social or public discipline to make our country prosperous. The 3 years working plan of RSS in organising this Hindu Shakti Sangama is executed well here” he added.

The event was presided by scientist L.G. Dr V J Sundaram. Sri Rajayogeendra Mahaswamy, RSS General Secretary Suresh Bhaiyyaji Joshi, Kshethreeya Sanghachalak Justice Parvat Rao, Pranth Sanghachalak Dr Khageshan Pattana Shetty, President of Working Committee Sathish Jagajinni were present on the dais.

Prior to the speech of Sarasanghachalak, a spectacular show of demonstration of various Sangh physical exercises by swayamseavaks, attracted the gathering.

From 1894 villages of 13 districts of North Karnataka 21,554 swayamsevaks participated in this 3 day residential camp of exercise. Around 2000 swayamsevaks were working as Prabandhaks (volunteers in organising team).

The Hindu Shakti Sangama was held to commemorate 75th anniversary of visit of RSS founder Dr Keshava Baliram Hedgewar to Chikkodi of North Karnataka on January 16, 1937 from where RSS activities began in Karnataka.

The live webcasting of the programme was arranged for global viewers in www.samvada.org which is the official website of Vishwa Samvada Kendra, the media centre of RSS.

Earlier to this there was meeting of Saints (Sant Sammelan) and get-together of selected Intellectuals of north Karnataka was organised in which RSS Sarasanghachalak shared his thoughts and social concerns.

“Our country has glorious illustrations of mothers refusing to accept sons who have retraced from battlefields, in fear of facing the battle. In Bharat, mothers never accept cowards who do not fight for safeguarding the mother land. Bharat is our mother land, Bhumi Devi. And this mother land has been facing tormentous issues, both internally and externally. As children of the soil, it is our duty to stay united, to fight. The ‘many’ should become ‘one’ with unity. Along with the golden concepts of Matru Devo Bhava and Pitru Devo Bhava, we must ensure that we observe the notion of Desha Devo Bhava“, he added.

RSS Sarasanghachalak Mohan Bhagwat, RSS General Secretary Bhaiyyaji Suresh Joshi were present.
