1. 2G note at PMO’s insistence: FM, Cab Sec Drafted Para On PC, Says Letter To PM:

New Delhi: The controversial finance ministry note on 2G spectrum allocation that created a political storm by suggesting that thethen finance minister P Chidambaram could have prevented the scam by insisting on auction of spectrum was drafted after detailed consultations with the PMO and the Cabinet Secretariat, and issued only because of the

PMO’s “insistence”, although the “DEA (Department of Economic Affairs in the finance ministry) was not in favour of sending the note”. [TOI p1]

2. Oppn accuses govt of concealing facts :

New Delhi : The joint parliamentary committee meeting on the 2G scam on Monday witnessed a fierce exchange of fire, as opposition members accused the government of concealing facts. [HT p1]

3. PAC meet on CAG cancelled after ruckus :

New Delhi : A key meet of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on the 2G-spectrum scandal was shelved on Monday after members of the Opposition and the Congress clashed over the presence of Comptroller and Auditor-General (CAG) Vinod Rai in the meet.[HT p11]

4. India’s Track 3: Afghan-Iran rail link : New Delhi : In a bold move to

assert itself in the Af-Pak region and reduce Pakistan’s room for man

oeuvre, India is finalising a plan to construct a 900-km railway line that will

connect Chabahar port in Iran, being built with Indian help, to the mineralrich

5. Clarify Stand on Kani Bail Plea: SC to CBI: NEW DELHI : Ahead of the

special court order on the bail pleas of DMK supremo M Karunanidhi’s

daughter Kanimozhi and four others in the 2G spectrum scam case, the

Supreme Court has asked CBI to clarify whether it was opposed to the

6. Why different stands on 2G bail: SC to CBI, Agency Asked To

Explain The Basis For Differentiating Between 2G Accused: New

Delhi: Days before the trial court verdict on bail pleas of DMK leader

Kanimozhi and four others in the 2G spectrum scam case, the Supreme

Court on Monday asked the CBI on what basis the agency was

differentiating the case of the five from other accused, whose bail they are

Summoned For Questioning: New Delhi: In the first crackdown of its

kind against those stashing unaccounted wealth overseas, the income tax

department has launched an offensive against politicians and industrialists

October 21 announcement triggered hot debates in the state as well as

10. EC accepts call for right to reject : New Delhi: Accepting a major Team

Anna demand, Election Commission will be writing to the law ministry

asking for the option of “right to reject” to be introduced in elections in five

11. Team Anna got 3cr in donations, Of This, 1.16cr Collected During

Ramlila Stir: New Delhi: Team Anna collected Rs 2.94 crore in donations

in the last six months, of which Rs 1.16 crore was collected in 12 days

while the Ramlila Maidan agitation was on. Over 25,000 people made

donations during the Ramlila Maidan agitation of which 23,138 people

donated less than Rs 1,000 — an indication of the mass movement that

the August agitation became. About 400 people donated above Rs

12. Hazare to End Maun Vrat Soon, To tour country to meet people who

supported him: MUMBAI : Anna Hazare has announced that he will end

his maun vrat (silence) in the next four days and speak out on various

issues. He will take up a national tour to meet his supporters from every

part of the country and declare the future course of his agitation too. [ET


13. Parliament’s winter session from Nov 22 : New Delhi : The winter

session of Parliament will commence from November 22. A decision to

this effect was taken by the Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs

(CCPA) during a meeting in the national capital on Monday.[IE p5]

14. Opp. plans no-trust vote in Winter Session : NEW DELHI : The

Opposition plans to keep the government on tenterhooks by moving a noconfidence

motion against it during the coming Winter Session of

Parliament, beginning on November 22, in order to expose the “fencesitters”

ahead of next year’s crucial Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.[AA


15. Quota for Muslim OBCs soon, says Khurshid : Lucknow : A day after

former RSS chief KS Sudarshan met Shia cleric Kalbe Sadiq at Unity

College in Lucknow, Union Minister Salman Khurshid visited the same

college on Monday and in Sadiq’s presence promised that the government

would soon bring “quota within quota” for Muslim OBCs.[IE p2]

16. Uddhav, Athavale will share stage with Advani : MUMBAI: Senior BJP

leader L.K. Advani’s “Janchetana Yatra” will make its way into Mumbai on

November 4. Interestingly, apart from several BJP leaders slated to speak

at the rally, Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray and RPI

leader Ramdas Athawale will also be amongst the people who address

17. Gadkari meets BJP leaders in Tihar, hits out at CBI, Centre : New

Delhi: BJP chief Nitin Gadkari on Monday met Sudheendra Kulkarni and

two former party MPs at Tihar Jail and said it was beyond his

comprehension as to why they were not being granted bail despite being

chargesheeted in the cash-for-vote scam case. [TOI p15]

18. HC seeks Delhi cops response on bail pleas of Kulkarni, 3 others :

New Delhi : The Delhi High Court on Monday issued a notice to the Delhi

Police on the bail applications of for accused including senior BJP leader

and former deputy prime minister L K Advani’s former aide Sudheendra

Kulkarni and two former BJP MPs, for their alleged complicity in the cash

for vote-scam.[IE p5]

19. BSY ministers skip LK’s dinner party: Bangalore: Embarrassment for

L K Advani in Karnataka didn’t stop at 12 ministers loyal to ousted CM B S

Yeddyurappa boycotting his public rally on Sunday. He was further

snubbed when at a dinner hosted by CM D V Sadananda Gowda the

same night, only 5-6 ministers and 20 of the state’s 122 BJP MLAs

20. Diggy’s farce ‘D Plan’ of Congress, says Javadekar : New Delhi :

Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh got it left and right from the

BJP, which on Monday accused former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister of

always supporting wrong-doings. Singh had irked the Opposition party by

claiming that after Baba Ramdev and Anna Hazare, Sri Sri Ravishankar

21. Decision on Telangana after Eid: PC : New Delhi: A movement towards

a decision on the Telangana issue will take place after the Eid-ul-Zuha

festival, home minister P Chidambaram said on Monday. He said

Congress general secretary incharge of Andhra Pradesh and Union health

minister Ghulam Nabi Azad had conveyed to different groups in the state

that since the festival season was going on, there has been no movement

22. BJP slams Digvijaya for his remarks on Sri Sri Ravi Shankar : New

Delhi : The BJP criticised senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh for his

statement that Art of Living guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar is Plan ‘C’ of the

RSS to destabilise the UPA government, saying Singh himself

represented Plan ‘D’ of his party, “which could be dirty tricks department or

23. Now, Sri Sri takes on graft in UP yatra : Lucknow: After Baba Ramdev

and Anna Hazare, spiritual guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar has announced

action against graft. Starting on November 7, he will take out an anticorruption

yatra from Jaunpur in UP, during which he will hold satsangs in

various parts of the state and urge people to take a pledge against graft.

The yatra will begin and end in UP. [TOI p16]

24. Khalistan terror group says Sajjan Kumar was target : Patiala : The

explosives recovered from an abandoned car in Ambala on October 12

were being brought to Delhi by banned terrorist group Khalistan Tiger

25. MFIs are new-age moneylenders : Brinda : Mumbai : Micro Finance

institutions (MFIs) envisioned to give small loans to the poor, are

exploiting poor women by charging them exorbitant interest rates,

Communist Party of India (Marxist) Polit Bureau member Brinda Karat

26. Maharashtra govt set to prosecute Lavasa top brass : New Delhi :

The Maharashtra government is set to initiate criminal proceedings

against top Lavasa Corporation Limited (LCL) bosses including its

chairperson Ajit Gulab-chand for alleged environmental violations in the

27. Koda thrashed by jail guards, fractures hand: Ranchi: Former

Jharkhand CM Madhu Koda, jailed for money laundering, was beaten up

by prison guards while leading a protest against the poor quality of food

served to him and other high-profile inmates here on Monday. Koda

fractured his right hand and is in hospital. [TOI p1]

absence of Shanta loyalists, including two ministers and four MLAs, from

29. Arunachal CM Gamlin quits : Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh chief

minister Jarbom Gamlin resigned on Monday after 40 Congress legislators

adopted a one-point resolution asking party chief Sonia Gandhi to choose

Gamlin’s successor. The resignation capped a prolonged resistance to

Gamlin’s selection as CM, led by dissident leader Nabam Tuki. [TOI p16]

30. Lokayukta Bill tabled in Uttarakhand Assembly : Dehradun :

Uttarakhand Chief Minister B C Khanduri Tabled the Uttarakhand

Lokayukta Bill 2011, in the Vidhan Sabha on Monday amid a muted

response from the opposition Congress. The Bill comes up for debate on

31. Over 100 AI pilots seek NOC to quit : New Delhi: The war of attrition

between pilots of Air India and erstwhile Indian Airlines now threatens to

hasten the demise of the critically ill Maharaja. Over 100 AI pilots last

Saturday collectively sought a “no objection certificate” from the aviation

ministry to seek jobs elsewhere and quit the national airline.[TOI p11]

cabinet has set up a committee that will study and frame

recommendations on regularization of farmhouses as country homes and

38. Villages of Yamuna Expressway await High Court hearing : Greater

Noida :After deciding the land acquisition cases in Noida and Greater

Noida, the Allahabad high court is likely to begin hearing of petitions filed

by the farmers of Yamuna Expressway soon. Many of the 30-odd villages

located along the Noida-Agra toll road have moved court, seeking their

39. 3 gets life sentence in Mirchpur case : New Delhi : A Delhi court on

Monday awarded life sentences to three of the 15 people convicted for

burning to death a 70-year-old Dalit man and his physically challenged

40. NIA Not to Oppose Bail of Malegaon Blast Accused : NEW DELHI :

With probe pointing to the role of right-wing extremists in the 2006

Malegaon blasts, the National Investigation Agency has decided not to

oppose bail petitions of nine accused who were arrested before the role of
