1. Didi isolated as DMK backs govt, Karunanidhi Joins NCP, NC Chorus
On Global Rates, Won’t Rock Boat: New Delhi: A day ahead of a
delegation of Trinamool Congress MPs is scheduled to meet PM Manohan
Singh, the government received the backing of ally DMK with party
supremo M Karunanidhi joining NCP leader Sharad Pawar in assuring that
he will not rock the ruling coalition over the unpopular petrol price hike.

2. Petrol Price Hike: Mamata Fails to Earn Support of Other UPA Allies,

Karuna : NEW DELHI : Mamata Banerjee’s ‘gunboat politics’ against the
Centre seems to have garnered little support among UPA allies. A day
after NCP chief Sharad Pawar backed the prime minister’s stand on
deregulation of fuel prices, DMK said that it was against precipitating a

Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee seems to have pegged the
political price of not pulling out her party’s ministers from the UPA

threat of stalling Parliament during the winter session if government fails to

8. Anna to include tribals, minorities in his team : Ralegan Siddhi: With
his team rocked by controversies, Anna Hazare on Monday said he plans
to restructure his core committee to also give representation to religious

9. Kejriwal apologizes for Nagpur violence : New Delhi: Team Anna
member Arvind Kejriwal on Monday apologized and condemned the
violence at a Nagpur meeting after reports said his supporters had beaten
up protesters. “Those who were protesting against me are also a part of
this movement. They are our friends. If they have any questions or
suggestions or grievances, we will talk to them,’’ he said. “We should not
attack them. I also urge those friends who assaulted the protesters not to

was futile to speculate on when it would give its report on the Bill as the

the occasion of his 85th birthday, BJP veteran LK Advani plans to take a
break from his Jan Chetna Yatra on Tuesday. The yatra is to enter the last
leg of its nationwide campaign against corruption. But the yatra, which
began on a stormy note, has managed to change the party’s inner

the 1894 Act has become outdated as it does not provide for rehabilitation
of persons displaced from their land, although their livelihood is affected
by compulsory acquisition, a Bench of the Supreme Court has called for

government has asked banks to accept identity proofs issued in other
states as valid documents for opening no-frills bank accounts, in a move
that will help millions of migrant workers, including domestic helps and

27. ‘RBI rule on identity proof not practical’ : New Delhi: While RBI had
relaxed norms to permit banks to open accounts based on self declaration
in the absence of a valid identity proof, in practice few banks were using
the flexibility as they feared penal action from the regulator and

31. Gehlot meets Sonia, reshuffle likely : JAIPUR: It could be probable
Cabinet reshuffle or finalisation of the names for political appointments in

on Monday. He made a visit to 10 Janpath along with party in-charge for

40. No word yet from CJI on judge’s charge of caste bias : New Delhi :
National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) Chairman P.L. Punia
said on Tuesday that he had not received any communication from Chief
Justice of India S.H. Kapadia on the action taken on a complaint of Justice
C.S. Karnan of the Madras High Court Judge, which was forwarded by the

41. BJP stuck with Advani’s tour bill : Ashok Malik: L.K. Advani’s anti
corruption yatra enters its final leg, the murmurings in the BJP are growing
louder and louder. Put mildly, the yatra has been less than successful.
Other than in states where the state government or the chief minister — in
case he belonged to the BJP, or, as in Bihar, to an allied party —
mobilised crowds, the response has been tepid.[AA p6]
